My stepdaughter has been struggling with addiction for about 8 years, and has passed in and out of both active use and other criminal activity. She has been incarcerated since January, and during this time has spent a great amount of time drawing closer to Jesus. She understands she needs a structured program to rebuild her life when she is released in October. She has medicaid, but they only pay for rehab for those who are actively using within the past 30 days – she has been clean for 8 months by means of her incarceration. Her mother and I cannot afford the program, and we are receiving what I feel to be very bad advice – that she should lie and say she’s used. I don’t believe this is a good approach considering her PFO designation, and beyond that, I have talked with her at length in reinforcing that the lies, manipulations and deceit that her addiction led her to do and not define her by who God says she is. Please pray for the continuation of her sobriety and growth in Jesus, and that God will sort out the financials for her to get help.
