We lost my brother in law on July 17th. He came out to Colorado to backpack the Collegiate West, 82 miles, with my husband and a friend of ours. They completed the trip on the morning of the 17th. Souvenirs were bought in the summit gift shop and a celebratory drink was had. As they were driving down the pass, talking about the awesome trip they just had, my brother in law lost consciousness. My husband performed CPR along the side of the road until EMS arrived. They did all they could, he was gone at age 55. My husband places blame on himself for inviting our brother in law on this trip. He leaves behind a wife, son and daughter in law, mother, older brother, and us. We are almost two weeks in and this still doesn’t seem real or even possible. He was 100% okay on the five day trip. This is such a difficult time for my family right now……
